After negotiations held earlier this year, Japan agreed to provide satellite imagery to Ukraine.

This is reported by the specialized publication Intelligence Online.

According to the publication, the Japanese iQPS Institute at Kyushu University will provide Ukrainian intelligence with satellite images obtained using radar reconnaissance.


It is noted that the negotiations took place in early February, and the corresponding agreement was signed last week.

The iQPS Institute already has five satellites in orbit and plans to launch a seventh by the end of 2026.

Both parties agreed that it would take them two to three months to set up the programming tools and receive the snapshots.

Creation of a Ukrainian satellite group
It was recently reported that from 2026, Ukraine, together with partner countries, will begin developing satellites for defense purposes.


This stage also includes the creation of a space situational awareness system and its integration into defense technologies.

The final stage, planned for the period from 2030 to 2035, will be the creation of a full-fledged space defense segment — a satellite constellation, which will provide real-time analytics and be integrated into global security projects.

Recall that in October 2022, the governments of the Czech Republic and Ukraine reached a political agreement on the creation of a defense cluster. As part of this partnership, a project was initiated to develop satellites needed by both countries.

A key element of the future constellation of satellites "Constellation" will be the Drak satellite, which is being specially developed for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Companies belonging to the Czech space cluster Brno Space Cluster are working on the project in close cooperation with Ukrainian specialists.

The main integrator of the project is the Czech company TRL Space.
